Stairs and ladders

Artist Date

Artist Dates can be anything you like, and they do not have to take up an entire day.

I seem to remember reading in Julia Cameron’s The Artist’s Way, that if you don’t have a lot of time, even a trip to the - insert local cheap store - and buying something silly for your childhood self counts.

I’m lucky, because I have more than one local museum within walking distance, so even if I only have an hour, I can still go.

This time I went to Kunsthal KAdE, where you can currently see Stairway to...?, an exhibition about stairs and ladders.

Apparently, the reason for the exhibition is the war monument, The Ladder, by Armando, which stands near one of Amersfoort's entrance roads, though I think I missed why.

The Ladder by Armando

As I mentioned last time, I can usually find at least one thing of interest (usually more) at any exhibition, and this time was no different.

The Staircase with Trophies by Giovanni Battista Piranesi

In the first room I entered, there were two etchings/engravings by Piranesi next to a woodcut by MC Escher.

Stairs of Old Age by Unknown

I also saw two centsprenten (penny prints), which was fun because I had just read about centsprenten a couple of weeks ago and how the colours were just painted or stencilled over the woodcut print.

There were some fun and interesting video fragments too, as well as works of art I had seen elsewhere.

De Opbouw 02 by Koos Buster (ceramics, synthetic clay, glass)

I’m not sure how long this museum visit took. It can’t have been more than an hour, and that was more than enough learn more about stairs and ladders.

I left the museum and headed for the train station to pick up my husband, who had been out of town for a couple of days. We had lunch on the way home.

And in case you’re wondering: a couple of crocuses and that one daffodil are the only signs of spring I’ve seen so far.

Enjoy your day!

Marsha.
