A farewell in Amsterdam

Weekend vlog

Hi there! Happy Friday!

This rainy week… I’ve been plugging away at a Gelli Arts® video, and I’ve been listening to several true crime podcast series (recommendations are welcome!).

Last Saturday, we went on a special mission to Amsterdam: the final exhibition at Nihon no hanga.

If you’ve been following me for a while, then you’ve seen us go to Nihon no hanga before.

It’s the private museum of Elise Wessels, a collector of Japanese woodblock prints, in a beautiful Amsterdam canal house.

Wessels sadly passed away in June, and that means the museum will close.

The exhibition has two parts. The first part you see in the video is about the Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923. It’s hard to see, but most of these prints depict devastating scenes.

The second part is an ode to Elise Wessels, showing some of her favourite prints. Which was beautiful and so bittersweet.

You can still visit Nihon no hanga this weekend and next weekend. So, if you are in the vicinity, go and look.

After the museum visit, we sat down to have lunch and gather our thoughts.

Then we headed for Concerto, the record store and once we were done browsing there, we went to the station and took the train home.

On Sunday, H wanted to purchase some spring bulbs, so we walked over to the garden centre. Which, of course, is all decked out for the holiday season.

I don’t know how you feel about it, but I’m finding it increasingly harder to enjoy the abundance of (mostly plastic) holiday decor displayed at these stores. It makes me rather sad instead.

Anyway, let’s end on a high note: H was thrilled to get some oliebollen!

Enjoy your weekend!

Marsha.
